Club News - 1st March 2009
2009 Season
The 2009 season begins on the weekend of the 22nd March, Malin begin with a home game against last years Championship runners-up Termon and the following week they host Glenfin, two tough games to begin with but none of them will be easy this year. The club are drawn to face Gweedore in the preliminary round of the 2009 senior championship, another tough ask against the club who have won more senior titles than any other club in Donegal. The under-age registration for 2009 takes place on Sunday, 8th March at 4-00pm in the GAA centre.
Traditional Music
The next music session will take place in the GAA centre on Monday 16th March to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with plenty music, dancing and craic!, all welcome, beginning at 7-30pm.
Quiz
A fun sports quiz takes place in the GAA centre on Good Friday with a fair bit of emphasis on the fun part, all welcome to come along.
Club Membership
Club membership for 2009 is now due and will be collected in the coming weeks. Membership is as follows; Adults; E15 each, Family Membership; E30 for two adults and two children.
Charity Dance
The club is running a charity dance in the Malin Hotel on Saturday 28th March with music by Shunie Crampsie. Tickets are E5 each and all proceeds go to Carndonagh Hospital, all support for this worthy cause is appreciated.
Training
Senior Ladies training takes place on Tuesdays at 6-00pm and at 5-00pm on Saturdays, all new players welcome.
Under 16 and minor training takes place every Thursday at 7-00pm, all players in above age groups asked to attend.
Hurling/ Camogie for 7 to 12 year olds continues on Fridays from 5-30 to 6-30pm in the GAA centre, cost is 2 Euro per child.
U-14 training continues every Monday at 6-00pm. All players are asked to bring boots and runners and all new players welcome.
U-8 training continues on Sundays at the usual time of 11-00am.
Lotto
There was no winner of this weeks lotto jackpot of E500. The sequence drawn was 7,4,2,5,1,3,6. The E50 prize was won by Sally McCloskey, Drumcarbit with the E20 sellers prize going to Aoife McColgan, Malin. This weekend’s jackpot is E550 and as always we thank the local community for its continued support.
Congratulations
Finally, congratulations to minor player Shaun O’Donnell from Culdaff who has been selected for the Donegal 2009 minor panel.
Club News - 8th March '09
Match Reports
Malin seniors visited Strabane Sigersons on Saturday evening. Despite the terrible weather conditions the side came away with a draw and were unlucky not to claim the win.
Fixtures
The 2009 season begins on the weekend of the 21st/22nd March. Malin begin with a home game against last years Championship runners-up Termon and the following week they host Glenfin. The Inishowen minor league begins this Friday, 13th March, with Malin away to Buncrana at 7-15pm under floodlights.
First Aid
A First Aid Course(sports related) takes place in the GAA centre on Saturday 14th March from 9-30 am to 4-00pm and the club would like as many team managers as possible to attend.

Good Luck Wishes
Good luck to Lorna, Dereena and Jacqueline Houton who will compete in a Stars in Your Eyes competition in the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny on Monday, 16th March. This is a fundraising event for the Donegal Ladies County Board and promises to be a night not to be missed. Anyone looking for tickets for the show should contact Maria McLaughlin 087 7763679 as soon as possible.

The E50 prize was won by Jamie W Doherty, Westtown, Malin Head with the E20 sellers prize going to Seamus Doherty(PM), Malin Head. Shaun Farren Memorial Tournament
The Shaun Farren Annual Memorial Tournament takes place this Saturday, 21st March in Malin beginning at 11-00am.
This year will see a different format with Carndonagh, Urris, Moville, Muff and Glenswilly joining Malin U-12s for A and B competitions to be run off on the day. Anyone available to help out with the running of the tournament is asked to come along, all players to be in Malin at 10-30am and we would seek as much support for these young players as possible on Saturday. Match Reports
Malin seniors recorded their first win in this years Ulster Senior Club League with a 1-12 to 0-06 victory over Clann na Gael from Armagh on Sunday in Omagh. Malin minors were defeated by one point away to Buncrana in the opening game in the Inishowen minor league on Friday, this Friday 20th they are away to Carndonagh at 7-00pm. The U-16 side defeated neighbours Carndonagh in the County Northern League on Sunday in Malin, a punched goal by Malin’s Pauric McGonagle late on being the deciding score. Malin reserves had a win in a friendly over their Carndonagh counterparts at the weekend as both sides prepare for competitive action this weekend. The Malin U-14 side met Steelstown from Derry at the weekend in a challenge match, the Malin side losing by the minimum.

Condolences
Finally, the club offers its deepest sympathies to former county chairman Naul McCole on the death of his wife Claire, sympathies are also extended to Naul’s son Declan.

Shaun Farren Tournament
A very successful Shaun Farren Memorial U-12 Tournament took place in Malin last Saturday (photos from the tournament are available in our photo gallery). Six clubs took part; Malin, Carndonagh, Urris, Moville, Muff and Glenswilly. Each club had an A and a B team.
'A' competition
After all 5 matches were played Malin, Urris and Glenswilly finished with 8 points. A count up of scores resulted in Malin and Glenswilly taking part in the gold final. Urris and Carndonagh contested the silver final with Muff and Moville in the bronze. Malin and Glenswilly shared the spoils in the gold final, with Urris winning the silver and Muff the bronze.
'B' competition
After the round of 5 matches Carndonagh met Glenswilly in the gold final with Glenswilly emerging winners. Muff beat Moville in the silver final while Urris defeated Malin in the bronze.
A very enjoyable day of football was had by all with around 160 players taking part. Credit to all the coaches from the various clubs, Malin club people who helped with the shop and giving out the crisps after the competition, ladies who made tea and sandwiches, referees, photographers and of course the man on the hooter!

- Malin seniors got the 2009 league campaign off to a perfect start on Sunday with a good win against last years Senior Championship finalists Termon. Final score in the match was 0-15 to 1-08 (full match report available here).
- The reserve side were narrowly defeated 0-06 to -07 in their opening league game on Sunday (match report available here).
- Malin minors got their first win, by two points, away to Carndonagh in the Inishowen minor league on Friday, this Friday 27th they are away to Moville at 7-00pm.
- The U-16 side made it two wins out of two in the Northern County League, beating Robert Emmett’s, Castlefin, by 3-09 to 1-06 in Castlefin on Sunday.
- The Senior Ladies played their first friendly match of the year away to Muff on Saturday last, coming away winners in the end. The girls hope to play a friendly away this weekend against a Belfast club.
Fixtures
This weekend sees the senior and reserve sides at home to Glenfin who were relegated from Division 1 last year. The seniors will be hoping to continue their good start while the reserve side will be looking for their first points of the campaign. The games are provisionally scheduled for 4-00 and 5-30 on Saturday evening, check local press for further details, all support welcome.
The U-12s begin their Inishowen league campaign away to Moville on Tuesday 24th March, games are at 6-45 and 7-30
Club Meeting
A club committee meeting will take place in the GAA centre on Thursday, 26th March beginning at 8-30pm, all committee members are asked to attend.
Poker Night
There is a Poker night taking place in the GAA centre on Friday, 3rd April, but in E20, top ups E10, all welcome.

Club News - 29th March '09
Sliabh Sneacht Sponsored Climb
A sponsored climb of Slieve Sneacht will take place on Monday, 4th May (Bank Holiday Monday) with all proceeds going towards the U-14 trip to Leeds this year. Sponsor forms are available from Patrick Collins 087 2990057.
Fixtures
This weekend sees the senior and reserve sides away to local rivals Buncrana. The seniors will be hoping to continue their good start while the reserve side will be looking for their first points of the campaign. Check local press for further details, all support welcome.
Match Reports
The U-16 side suffered their first defeat in the Northern County league, going down by 2 points at home to Red Hugh’s on Sunday.
The U-14s won a challenge game away to Claudy from Co Derry which was played under lights.
The U-12 A and B sides both won away to Moville in the opening round of U-12 Inishowen fixtures.
The minor game against Moville on Friday evening was postponed due to the weather,

There will be no music session this month,. The next session takes place on the first Friday in May.
Poker Night
There is a Poker night taking place in the GAA centre on Friday, 3rd April, buy in E20, top ups E10, all welcome.
Sports Quiz
A fun sports quiz takes place in the GAA centre on Good Friday night, with a fair bit of emphasis on the fun part. Maximum of 4 per team and entry fee is €20 per team. The quiz gets under way at 9.30, with questions being based on a wide range of sports. Everyone is welcome to come along to join in for what should be a good nights craic. Light refreshment will be served.
