Club News - 3rd May 2009
Match Results
The senior side were defeated by 2-13 to 1-08 in the first leg of the senior championship game away to Gweedore on Sunday. Full match reports from the senior and reserve games are available by clicking here.
- The reserve side were also defeated on Sunday and they must also win next weekend to keep championship hopes alive.
- The minors made it 3 out of 3 in the County league beating Glenfin by 0-10 to 0-06 in Malin on Monday evening. A good second half display from Malin saw them come back from 0-04 to 0-02 behind at the break to win, had they taken all their chances then the margin of victory could have been much more as after a slow start, Glenfin taking a three points to nil lead, Malin were much the better side all over the field. Scorers for Malin were Daniel McDaid(0-5, 1 free), Shaun Monagle(0-2), Ryan Crua, Gary Farren and Seamus Houghton.

La na gClub
Thanks to everyone who helped make the 125 year celebration in Malin on Sunday such a success (pictures from the day are available by clicking here). A special mention to club treasurer Martin McColgan who won the Poc Fada, just goes to prove the old adage that you can beat a good man but you can’t beat a lucky one! Just on the subject of luck, Paddy Collins got New York in the All Ireland Sweepstake, drawn at 7-30 on Sunday evening, possibly the shortest life of a E20 note ever!

Match Results
- Congratulations to our Under 16 panel who won the Under 16 Northern League Shield when they defeated Carndonagh 3-4 to 1-6 on Friday evening. A hat trick of early goals by Dan McDaid paved the way for a narrow 4 point win. The Under 16s also defeated Burt last week 3-9 to 1-6 to clinch a place in the Inishowen final, they will now meet Buncrana in the decider.
- Malin ladies recorded another fine victory at the weekend when they defeated Convoy 3-7 to 0-4 on Sunday.
Mini-Marathon
Ladies players, Maria McLaughlin (F), Maria Houten, Denise McCarron and friends are doing a mini marathon on Bank Holiday Monday in Dublin In aid of CCS Special Needs Dept and the Irish Kidney Association. Sponsor sheets are available throughout the parish. The ladies have been in training recently so if you see any of them walking the roads.....DONT GIVE THEM A LIFT.
Refereeing
Sunday the 24th of May was another milestone in the short refereeing career of Shaun McLaughlin when he was the man in the middle in Celtic Park in the Ulster Minor Championship clash between Derry and Monaghan. Shaun gave his usual assured performance and it is only a matter of time before he takes another step up the refereeing ladder. Malin were well represented in Celtic Park in the Minor clash as Shaun's umpires in the game were John McLaughlin (R), Terence Colhoun and Noel Mc Laughlin. Noel has denied rumours that a “Paddy Russell” type book is in the pipeline, stating that he will wait until he does an All Ireland Final first!!
Charity Cycle
Special mention also must go to Terence Colhoun and Sean Mc Laughlin (O) who took part in a charity cycle between Muff and Moville at the weekend. With the Tour De France, just over 2 months away, if the lads set off for France now, they might just make Paris in time for the final stage.

Match Results
- Seniors - The senior side recorded a good 0-15 to 0-8 victory over Aodh Ruadh Ballyshannon in Division 2 of the All County League on Sunday. Malin were well on top throughout the game and led by 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval although they had Declan Lafferty to thank for bringing off a superb save from Steven Ward midway through the first half - had the visitors scored the result might have be different. As it was, Malin hit four unanswered points early in the second half to put the result beyond doubt and leave Ballyshannon with a long trip home contemplating their first league defeat of the year. Best for Malin were Declan Walsh, Damian Harkin, Danny and Gerard Greene and Anthony and Patrick Kelly while Aodh Ruadh had good performances from Steven Ward, Michael Gurn, Johnny Gallagher and Pauric Buggy. Scorers for Malin were Anthony Kelly(0-8, 5 frees), Michael Doherty (0-2), Damian Harkin, Matthew Byrne, Danny Greene, Gerard Greene and Charlie Byrne while Pauric Buggy(0-5, 3 frees), Steven Ward, Michael Gurn and Philip O'Reilly scored for the visitors.
- Reserves - There was no reserve game on Sunday as Aodh Ruadh were unable to field a side which is very disappointing on the best day of the year so far.

Just on the subject of Colhoun, himself and Shaun Owen did a charity cycle last Saturday from Muff to Moville and back so well done to them, no ill effects reported by either, unfortunately the same cannot be said for the two poor bicycles!!

Well done to the girls who did the Dublin mini-marathon on Monday, more details next week.
