- An excellent second half performance from Malin seniors saw them come from six points behind to beat Aodh Rua 2-10 to 3-05 in Ballyshannon on Saturday evening. Two goals in quick succession from Aodh Rua put them 2-01 to 0-01 ahead early in the game but a goal directed from a free from Malin’s Anthony Kelly just before half time let the visitors just 3 behind at the break, 2-03 to 1-03.
Another Aodh Rua goal early in the second, somewhat against the run of play, put six between the sides once again but the second half belonged to Malin from then on and the visitors hit 1-07 to Aodh Rua’s two points, the goal coming from a penalty which Anthony Kelly converted.
This was a very impressive result against a side that does not lose many games in Ballyshannon and puts Malin clear in second place in the table behind Gaoth Dobhair. Malin had good performances throughout the side but were best served by Gary Farren, Paddy Mc McColgan and the Kelly brothers who were outstanding in mad-field. Scores from Malin were Anthony Kelly (2-03), Paddy Mc McColgan(0-02), Paddy Kelly, Declan Walsh ,Charlie Byrne, Gary Farren and Michael Doherty. - After last weeks Championship success Malin ladies returned to league action on Sunday with an away game against Aodh Rua, killygordan, the hosts proving no match for the 2009 junior Champions. Malin lead by 2-07 to 1-02 at half time and ran away with the game in the second half, eventually winning by 7-17 to 1-03. Scores from the ladies on the day were Aisling Mc Dermott (3-04), Emma Donaghy (2-05), Rosin Mc Donald (0-03), Francis Mc Donald (1-01), Caroline Kelly (0-02), Grainne Byrne (1-0), Maria Mc Laughlin and Breda Mc Daid. The ladies would like to thank the large support that travelled to Convoy for last Sunday’s final and also to Patrick Mc Laughlin(R) for putting on the barbeque on Sunday night in Lily’s Bar where the celebrations lasted well into the night. - An under-strength U-16 side lost out to Letterkenny Gaels in the County Division 3 final in Muff during the week.

Malin ladies continued their unbeaten season in 2009 with a good win over fellow Inishowen side Muff on Friday evening, a win that keeps Malin on course for a semi-final spot in the league competition with the ultimate aim of adding the Junior league title to the Championship title and moving up to Intermediate grade in 2010.

There is a supporters bus going to this game, anyone interested in travelling on the bus is asked to give their name to Patrick Houton 074 9379423 as soon as possible to guarantee a seat.- The senior and reserve sides had no games this weekend, Malin are currently in second place in the league behind Gaoth Dobhair and on course for a promotion play off spot. The senior side have 3 games remaining in the league, home to St Nauls and away to Glenfin and MacCumhaills, two wins out of these three would guarantee a play off place.
- Malin U-14s had a good 1 point win away to St Michaels in the quarter final of the Northern Board Division 3 championship with good performances from Sean Diver, Paddy McGrenahan and Tommy Byrne with substitute John Collins coming off the bench to score an important goal. They then proceeded to the semi-final away to neighbours Carndonagh last Wednesday evening. Both sides produced a free flowing first half in front of a large crowd in Carndonagh, each set of forwards on top in the first half, Carndonagh leading by 5-04 to 4-03 at the break.
A more determined Malin side took the field in the second half and a great defensive display, with Declan Farren, Mark Doherty and Ciaran O’Connor outstanding, held the Carndonagh forwards to a single point in the second period. The Malin pair of Matthew Crampsie and Paddy McGrenahan dominated mid-field in the second half with Christopher McLaughlin, Christopher Doherty and Adam Byrne lively up front, Christopher Doherty in particular hitting two excellent late points to give Malin a one point victory, 4-09 to 5-05.
