Match Reports
- Malin Seniors 0-12 Steelstown 2-08 : Malin and Steelstown produced an exciting game of football in the second round of Ulster Intermediate League games in Malin on Sunday, goals in each half from the Derry side proving the difference over the hour. The first of 7 Anthony Kelly frees gave Malin the lead before the visitors equalized and they went ahead with a goal after 12 minutes. This was to be their last score of the first half, Anthony Kelly hitting a second free before putting over a fine score from play and two equally good points from Matthew Byrne gave Malin a 0-05 to 1-01 half time lead, Byrne unlucky midway through the half to see his shot rebound off the crossbar.
Kelly hit a third free in the opening minute of the second half but a second Steelstown goal soon after saw them regain the lead, 2-01 to 0-06, and the visitors pushed on to lead by 2-04 to 0-07 by the mid point of the second half. Malin then picked up the pace to outscore their opponents 5 points to one in the following 12 minutes to put themselves 0-12 to 2-05 ahead with 3 minutes remaining but a good late rally from the visitors saw them hit 3 points without reply to win by 2. Scorers for Malin were Anthony Kelly(0-8,7 frees), Matthew Byrne(0-2), Conor Farren and Damian Ward.
Malin have their first away game of the competition next week when they travel to Tyrone to meet Loughmacrory in Round 3 on Sunday at 2-00pm, all support welcome. - Congratulations to the U-12 hurlers who reached the final of the North West indoor Hurling league on Sunday in Letterkenny. They played against Buncrana B in the quarter finals winning 8 points to five and Carndonagh B in the Semi finals winning six points to three. They were beaten in the final by a more experienced Burt team but showed an excellent account of themselves by playing a very hard and skilful match right to the final whistle. A great achievement by a team who have only been involved in Hurling in Malin for less than a year. Team members were Ruaidhri Mc Carron, Joe Doherty(PM), Padraig Mc Carron, Daniel Houten, Pauric O Donnell, Ciaran Doherty, Oisin Mc Gonagle and Danny Mc Carron. Saturday sees the start of the under ten indoor league with the boys and girls playing their first round of matches in the Templemore sports complex against Burt B, Carndonagh B, Muff B and Glenravel.

And finally...
I heard the following wee story during the week. Apparently Shaun Monagle bought his girlfriend a brown Labrador puppy for her 18th birthday last weekend, all together now...ahh!!! Now a gesture like this would normally warm the hearts of the young ladies family and I’m sure it did also in this case...for two days anyway, before Shaun blew all the brownie points by driving over the girlfriends sisters pet dog….!
