Club News - 10th January '10
Club Dinner Dance
The annual dinner dance takes place on the 23rd January in the Malin Hotel with special guest Jarlath Burns in attendance. The U-14 and U16 sides will receive their winners medals on the night as well as the ladies and Junior B sides so tickets, priced at €25, will be in great demand, order early from committee members to avoid disappointment.
Training
Hurling for Under 8s takes place Monday evenings 5pm-6pm, for Under 10s and Under 12s Friday evenings also 5pm-6pm. Hurleys and helmets are available to purchase at the club, Hurleys €15, helmets €60, Hurley and helmet €70, contact Grace or Eddie for details on paying €5 or €10 in weekly installments. Football and hurley are open to boys and girls and all new members are welcome, €2 per child and equipment is provided. Parents who would like to assist with the hurling in particular are very welcome, just come along to a training session or contact Grace on 086 8047199.
Get Fit
Get Fit classes with Charlie Byrne continue in the GAA centre for men and women Wednesdays and Fridays, men at 7-30pm, women at 9-00pm on Wednesdays, women at 6-30pm, men at 7-45 on Fridays, €5 per session, every level of fitness welcome, an excellent way to get in shape over the winter.
Congratulations
- Congratulations to former player Jim Quigley who was named at 108 in a list of the best 125 Donegal footballers.
- Congratulations to Junior B captain Philip McClean and Cliona McGuinness who got engaged over the holidays
- Congratulations also to John Doherty(Liza) and former ladies player Sandra McKeeney who also got engaged.
Club Lotto
Last weekends lotto draw was cancelled because of the adverse weather conditions, hopefully all shall return to normal this weekend.
Sympathy
The club extends its sympathies to the family of Mary Ann Doherty(Edward) who passed away during the week. Sympathies also to anyone who has lost loved ones at this time of year, especially Neil and Mary McColgan on their tragic loss.

The club are delighted to have Jarlath in attendance, one of the best known GAA people in the country. Jarlath played his football with Armagh before moving on to television work, he is a regular analyst with Martin McHugh on the Championship program on the BBC while he also features in TG4 show Underdogs. Jarlath is also a regular columnist in the Gaelic Life newspaper. Malin seniors are back in action on 7th February when they meet St Edna’s from Antrim in Malin at 2-00pm in the opening round of fixtures in the 2010 Ulster Intermediate League. The other sides in the group are Steelstown from Derry, Gortin and Loughmacrory from Tyrone and Donghmoyne from Monaghan.

There will be a club monthly meeting on Thursday 28th January, all committee members are asked to attend.

There was no winner of this weekends lotto jackpot. The sequence drawn was 4,1,3,2,7,6,5. James McDaid, c/o Lily’s Bar, Malin, won the €50 prize with the €20 sellers prize going to Lily’s Bar. Next weeks jackpot is €1,750 and we thank the local community for its continued support

Dinner Dance
The annual dinner dance took place on Saturday night in the Malin Hotel and was once again a great success (photos from the night available here soon). The club would like to take this opportunity to thank special guest Jarlath Burns and his wife Suzanne for making the journey from south Armagh and making the night such a success. Awards on the night were as follows:
- U14 most improved players - Dean McGonagle and Sean Diver;

- U-16 player of the year - Daniel McDaid and Daniel Mullarkey;
- Minor most improved player - Shaun Monagle;

- Ladies player of the year - Linda McColgan;
- Junior B player of the year - Tony McColgan and Brian Doherty;
- Young reserve player of the year - Kieran McColgan;
- Reserve player of the year - Finbarr Collins;
- Young senior player of the year - Gary Farren;
- Senior player of the year - Patrick Kelly;
- Club person of the year - Terence Colhoun;
- Overseas awards - Tony McColgan and Neil McLaughlin;
- Hall of fame award - Billy Douglas;
- Seamus McCloskey memorial award - Kevin McColgan.
Awards were also presented to club referees Shaun McLaughlin and Sean Venn and to county representatives Declan Walsh, Charlie Byrne, Roisin McDonald and Caroline Kelly. The victorious U-14, U-16 Junior B and ladies sides picked up their medals. The club would also like to thank the Malin Hotel for an excellent meal, the Cavanagh brothers for providing the entertainment and a special mention to fear an ti Kevin McGeoghegan who did an excellent job once again.
Training
- U-8 training begins on Sunday 31st January from 11-00 to 12 midday.
- U-12 training begins on Tuesday 26th at 5-00pm. All players are asked to be at the GAA centre for 4-45pm.
- U-16 training begins on Wednesday 20th January at 5-45 pm.

- Hurling for under 10’s and under 12’s will resume this Friday 29th January from 5-6pm in the gym .Under 8’s will resume on Monday 1st February from 5-6pm, new members are welcome. €2 per session and equipment is provided. For further information contact Grace 086 8047199. The club will begin the new season by taking part in the North West regional Indoor hurling under 12 competition next Sunday 31st January in Derry. Malin is in a group with Muff, Buncrana B and Burt B. This is a three week blitz format competition with the under tens then beginning on Saturday 20th Feb.
Congratulations
Congratulations to club referee Shaun McLaughlin who took charge of the Dr McKenna Cup game between Derry and Down in Celtic Park, Derry on Sunday, where he was ably assisted by umpires Noel McLaughlin and Terence Colhoun.

Club News - 31th January '10
Match Results
- The U-21 side exited the Championship quarter final after extra time on Saturday against Four Masters. Played in Muff, Malin got off to a great start with a first minute goal from Gary Farren. Four Masters responded well and it took an injury time 50 metre score from Daniel McDaid to force extra time, Four Masters pulling away late on to win by a couple of points.
- Malin under twelve hurling team made history on Sunday morning by being the first ever Malin hurlers to play competitive hurling. The boys are playing in the North west Indoor hurling league and played four matches on Sunday morning winning three of them against Burt B, Muff and Strabane Shamrocks. They were beaten by Muff in the first match but evened the score by winning in the second. All of the boys played well and gave 100% in every match. Team members were Ruaidhri Mc Carron, Joe Doherty(PM), Padraig Mc Carron, Daniel Houten, Pauric O Donnell, Ciaran Doherty and Danny Mc Carron. Their next series of matches is in Letterkenny next Sunday where they will play St Eunans B, Carn B and Burt B.
